23. The Massimo Dutti cords I've had fun with this week and building the style feeling you are after..
You’d think I would know better - I literally carry around the sticky brush in my handbag to ‘de-hair’ them regularly.
But this is the thing with our Style. What matters to one person, doesn’t even enter the sphere of the next person and alas that’s the joy.
Figuring out your sphere of what matters to you.
These Massimo Cords fall into my ‘relaxed everyday trousers’ category I am working on for my own wardrobe for Autumn and so far, I’ve styled them exactly how I love - neutral, relaxed and with a feeling of elevation.
I thought I would create a couple of looks not because I think they are for everyone but to see how a simple item like these trousers can be taken in so many style directions.
Before you dig in, here’s a link to a sticky roller in case, like me, you like the trousers enough to not be bothered about the sticky roller in your bag. I buy mine on good old Amazon, in bulk ;-)
I’ve also included some other cord options at the end that I’ve seen and liked along with some notes on Style Design to help you think about your styling this week of this or similar item.
Items I’ve worn and pictured below with my cords:
Massimo Dutti Relaxed Fit Needlecord Cords | Relaxed Cotton Blend Jumper Arket | Necklace (Vintage) similar Rope Chain Necklace here from COS | Leather Belt Arket (XS/S) | Boots Mint Velvet, Similar here | Double Face Wool Overcoat Arket.

A reminder of a little video I created earlier this week talking through how to get the most from my Styling Boards below, clicking through & viewing individual items.
One pair of Black Cords, 9 Looks.
p.s I mentioned on the boards that I created 3 looks but ended up styling 9 (got a little over-excited with all the beautiful clothes in the shops right now).

I hope you are enjoying my boards, please do pop into comments if you have any questions on items, sizing, brands or anything else - I will be there to answer.
Also, If you enjoyed this week’s post, please do feel free to share and if you like what I’m creating and would like to support my work here on Substack you can also support my work here.
Finally, think of your Style Design
If you do feel cords are an Autumn trouser you would like to explore for your wardrobe, my top advice is to keep in mind the type of look you want to build. Just as the Styling Boards show, it’s what you add that makes the look FEEL different, that creates a unique look and style. Building an outfit that will feel good to you is about bringing together different items that all contribute to a style you love.
A style design you will love will include a mix of brands, ways of accessorising, use of colour (or like me mostly neutrals), shoes that contribute to the tone and ultimately words you can use to describe it. All the layers matter. Each one adds to the feeling you are trying to create.
Use outfits you already own and wear and like the feeling of to tell you more and help guide what feels natural to you, what feels instinctual, easy, and stylish. Start there. And most of all have fun - It’s all learning after all.
Here are some other Cords I’ve seen and liked this week:
Albaray Black Cord Wide Leg Trousers.
Citizens of Humanity Paloma Wide Leg in Black.
Mango Mid Rise Cord Trousers in Black.
Boden Westbourne Cord Trousers (5 x colours).
Toast Gabi Organic Cord Pull on Trousers (4 x colours).
Happy Styling this week,
Julie x
I’m loving all of the black corduroy pants outfits. It’s one of the pieces I’m looking to add to my wardrobe this fall. Thanks as always for sharing the moodboards!
Love thèse cords! I think you have me almost convinced I need them in my wardrobe! What is the length like? Are they quite long, or finish around ankle length? xx
