A new home for sharing.
Hi there,
Yes, I am here and in a new place :-)

It seems finding the right place to hang out with you guys is a bit like finding a great outfit - you gotta try things on for fit and it can take time and patience. Lots of patience :-)
I have been chatting to you all on Flodesk for the last few months but alas, it stopped allowing me to share with the video platform I was using - so here we are - a new place for us to be together! Substack feels good. I am very excited about being able to do audio clips - now you can listen too or read what I share here (the audio clip is at the top of this post).
I’ve been toying with the idea of a podcast for a while so this might just be a toe dipping experiment, we might enjoy - let’s see! I also like the feeling of honesty Substack has. I follow some really lovely people who share their ideas here. It feels more about sharing thoughts, ideas and learning :-) As a teacher, a tactile, in person, hands waving, smiling, moving around, passionate talker - I like that.
Getting to know my clients with a realness, an honesty, an excited anticipation - is everything to me. Just like when we used too stand together over a clothes rail or while I was running around a store, you were musing over an outfit in a fitting room.
I want to bring you guys into that feeling :-)
I am here to share what I have learnt and more specifically, the idea of Style Design. An approach I have created to having a style you love, by design, when you take a more holistic approach to SEEING yourself.
The biggest learnings I have had in styling real women is around the beliefs we build up that inform what we buy, who we think we are. It is so hard to give yourself the space to explore your loves, your instincts, your values, who you are beyond everything that’s happened to you and beyond your roles in day to day life.
Style Design is about looking at your human design first.
Building a style you love from that place.
Getting to this place with your clothes just changes so much. It is hard at times to put my approach into words but I hope here, I have found a more natural place to let the words flow. I do know, this way of approaching styling has always been in me, an intuition to choose from a deeper place for a client.
Style Design Framework
If you are new to my work, I’m Julie, I set up my styling business (called Stylefish) at in 2008. I have taught over 3,000 women through group classes how to navigate a shop floor for their style. I was successful on Dragon’s Den in 2011 with 2 investors who helped me to create my own Diploma in Personal Styling to train other women who wanted to pursue their passion for styling real women, alongside building a corporate portfolio of clients with speaking events, writing and presenting.

Creating The Style Retreat
For me, what has always runs deepest, is how our clothes have the power to change how we see and feel about ourselves. They literally can change your day and the confidence you have to live your life to the fullest - for you. Over the last few years, I have really missed working with women one on one and decided during covid to start putting this idea of Style Design from my head into something more; a real approach I could take with women - one that was slower, deep, with a real depth of personal change.
I am going to let this page be a little space to let things flow for me. I won’t have a set day to drop in your inbox. When I have something lovely to share, I will use this space to do so. I hope you enjoy that approach too too :-)
We will go gently..
Speak to you soon - please feel free to reach out anytime. My door is always open.
