Notes on Styling | 49 | Spring get together's - what to wear
..and Styling yourself in a way feels most like you.
Hello my lovelies,
I am writing to you on our little French patio, the city is just waking up. I am just back from a very quick trip home for a Christening.
I wore a two-piece I bought last summer in Copenhagen while visiting a friend there. It’s from a very nice little affordable label called Moss Copenhagen, which she showed me when we were having a little browse.
This is its first full outing. I’ve been waiting for a chance to get it out.
The start of Spring …is always a good reminder, that building a great wardrobe, has many parts and those parts require applying what feels good to you into different categories of items.
No mean feat.

It only takes the thought of one summer wedding to knock us off course, as we try to stumble across something that feels perfect for us and perfect for the occasion.
But here’s the thing and I think it’s something we can all relate too.
It can be all too easy when shopping for a particular event - to end up buying what fits that event rather than a piece that fits your personal style.
And so, how do you style yourself in a way that feels true to you?
Try not to buy last minute. It rarely works well. And though miracles do happen, I really believe that great pieces, great items and outfits should be bought when we stumble across them, regardless of having the event in the calendar.
This way, you have a piece/ outfit ready to wear that you genuinely love and feels like you and it’s not tied to any specific event.
It is something you bought with a focus on you.
Shopping when you feel a need, usually results in more short-term items over pieces that sing out to you.
And so as the saying goes, Buy the thing, the event always finds you.
The power of wearing what feels most like you?
Feeling like yourself in what you choose to wear, even if it doesn’t fit a particular event profile, brings a feeling of personal style that is so powerful and clear for you to feel and others to see.

Try some of these questions to help you:
How can I show up as myself?
What does comfortable and stylish look and feel like to me this year?
What are my 3 style words that help me identify what a good buy will look like?
How can I take something I already own and love and give it a slightly new twist?
How can I try my best to stop my mind wandering to the ‘shoulds’ and ask myself what I would actually love to wear?
Being you = the most stylish statement of all.
Below, I’ve booked marked some lovely things to get those creative juices flowing and to hopefully help you think about event dressing with a little more flexibility for you.
Some little things.
Two pieces are always a winner in my book as then you have two pieces to play with afterwards. The jacket with jeans, the trousers with a relaxed tee. I’m looking forward now to wearing my pinstripe top with denim and the loose trousers with a simple white tee.
It’s also true that you may not need a single thing. What about that gorgeous Little Black Dress you had from 2 summers ago? or that little floral skirt that you’ve been meaning to dress up? Maybe a beautiful and flexible top can give you many more wears and something unique to try?
Think high/ low when it comes to events. Is it a piece I can dress up and dress down? You can’t always achieve this but I usually try too.
How will I make this item feel like me? What do I see myself wearing it with, the type of shoes, how would I wear my hair? What other colours could I team with it? Picturing all the steps can change your mind about an item or help you picture why this is a good buy for your wardrobe. It’s all in the personal style visualisation!
Finally, the rules in fashion have become that few rules actually matter enough not to listen to your own sense of what feels good.
You have the answers you need. Just listen to what feels good.
(*and try not buy last minute!).
Julie x
