I bought this skirt (worn below) second-hand. I honestly cannot remember where or when but it’s a few years ago now and each time I go to a sunny place, it gets worn and loved and I feel totally different in it to all my other clothes.
That’s the thing. Sometimes items you don’t expect to feel good in just defy all logic.
They may ignite a feeling in you that isn’t about logic or design, it is about something else that comes from somewhere deep within. I’ve seen it. It is a big part of exploration when delving into your Style Design and it’s why I encourage clients to be curious about what they try, which is not only fun and eye-opening but can lead to some really interesting discoveries about yourself.
Perhaps a dormant part of who were when you were younger is reignited? (a creative side?) or an item can simply stir a want for more of a particular style direction that (for whatever reason) is coming up for you but is hard to recognise day to day in the ‘everyday clothes’ habits you have?
This skirt is that piece for me. It has got 3 things I normally dislike:
This mint green colour washes me out. (here, granted, it’s only on my bottom half, which is fine but even so I’d never opt to buy it normally).
A severe elasticated waist - never normally for me - makes my bum feel a million times bigger.
Too many layers - now I love a layer to skim hips but it’s a balance and this amount would normally make me feel bottom-heavy.
But wearing it on holidays, I feel relaxed, floaty and even ethereal - not something I feel often at home!
Taking the time therefore to think through our clothes as individual items as part of a ‘whole’ style direction can be lots of things - interesting, fun and also thought-provoking. Our style is a constantly moving & creative thing, that helps us to really be who we are but also who we want to be. As that too changes.
Today’s post is a short one.
I am just home from said holiday and getting my brain back in action by ticking off some to-do list items before the week begins and I wanted to pop in here and say hi, hope you are all well!
This week I have an extra post coming your way - a little reset post.
I will be looking forward to what you can expect here with me this season, along with some lovely new season items (items i’ve been earmarking) as I introduce you to my Styling Boards (boards I use with clients to create their Style Design looks).
Look out for it - hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday.
Speak soon and have a great start to your week.

Yes I've often wondered why when browsing in a shop I sometimes am drawn to a pattern or piece of clothing I wouldn't usually be...its as if its connecting to another part of me...
